Darkness Rising
Darkness Rising is told from the perspective of Lize. She is a princess of an alien race that has come to Earth in search of resources... and host bodies. They cannot survive on any planet without taking over the bodies of the native population. Humans are on the run and in hiding, desperate for the very survival of their species. Lize inhabits a body of a human named Kim. She was part of a human resistance that lived in the desert where no one dared to enter.
Her brother, Ezil, reigns as a cruel dictator. He has taken away the ability to think freely from their people and forces them to serve as mindless drones. Suffering is seen everywhere, but her own people are unable to speak for themselves. The more she sees from her brother, the more she fears him and his vicious rule.
Secretly, Lize begins to plot against her brother. She tries to cover the evidence of any human activities and at the same time tries to alleviate the suffering of her people when she can. The clock is ticking and she knows it will come crashing down around her. The king will kill her when he discovers what she has done.
When he comes for her, something comes over her. Instead of submitting, she flees. She has never known anything more than her life in a palace. Her only hope for survival is to search out the humans that Kim belonged to. If they take her in, she will likely live as a slave for the rest of her days. If they don't, there will be a race as to who will kill her first: the humans, her brother or the desert.
